The Bengals are getting set to face the Raiders this week. Despite all odds this season, Oakland is where Cincinnati hopes to be in a few years. They are currently one game behind the Chiefs in the AFC West, and after the Antonio Brown fiasco this offseason, no one thought they’d be pushing for the playoffs this year.

More importantly, the Raiders are thriving in just the second year of their rebuild with Jon Gruden at the helm. One big reason for their success recently has been Derek Carr and Josh Jacobs leading a highly productive offense. In their four weeks after the bye, Carr has throw eight touchdowns with only one interception. He has also hit at least 280 yards passing all but once. Jacobs has also reached 100 total yards in three of those four games with three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the Bengals and rookie quarterback Ryan Finley get a shot at one of the league’s worst defenses. The Raiders have the 30th ranked passing defense, which give Finley a chance to redeem himself from a shaky debut. Not to mention Joe Mixon had his first 100 yard rushing performance of the season last week.

The question becomes if the Bengals can finally get their first win as they hit the road this week. We saw one of the first meaningful changes following the Baltimore game for Cincinnati when they cut linebacker Preston Brown, which clears the way for rookie linebacker Germaine Pratt.

Is that enough to fix a defense that hasn’t been above average all year? The answer to that and how Finley bounces back could decide whether the Bengals can play spoiler near the end of the season.
