A.J. Green won’t play vs. Ravens

Welp.

Yesterday, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor was confident that A.J. Green will play for the first time all season. Turns out, that confidence was ill-placed.

Before Thursday’s practice, A.J. Green said he won’t play on Sunday against the Ravens.

Green missed yesterday’s practice due to swelling in his injured ankle after it was expected he was going to participate. The team proceeded to list Green as day-to-day.

It has now been over three months since Green injured his ankle at the start of training camp in late July. This week was supposed to be Green’s much awaited return to the field, but another setback has prohibited from that happening.

With Green out, this will be the second time in his career that he misses both games versus the Ravens, a team that he normally does well against.

At this point, it’s fair to ask if Green plays at all this season. With no new contract and a winless team, sitting out for the remainder of the year may be in Green’s best interest.

But this is also A.J. Green we’re talking about, and if he’s ready to play, he’ll play. We’ll see if that happens any time soon.
