This week, the Cincinnati Bengals host the New England Patriots, as the 2019 season is marching to a close. From a record standpoint, the teams hold a stark dichotomy, but both have experienced quite a bit of losing lately.
Adding fuel to the fire is “SpyGate II”, or “VideoGate”, or whatever you want to call it. And, because the Patriots are such fans of film, we feel that this week’s “Chalk Talk” is an extra special episode.
Be sure to download the audio version of the podcast where this week’s guest is Bob Socci, the voice of the New England Patriots on their radio broadcasts. We have a great conversation about the state of the New England Patriots who have lost 3 of their last 5 games after starting the season 8-0.
Part of that discussion included these topics:
- What is going on with the offense?
- Is their defense the dominant force we saw early in the season or are they the unit that gave up 37 points to the Baltimore Ravens?
- And what is up with the Patriots sending a film crew to the Bengals game?
The Bengals and rookie head coach Zac Taylor face a difficult task as they prepare to face off against the greatest coach of all time. I lay out the basics of a game plan that might give them a shot.
As we all know, Bill Belichick is the king of exploiting matchups to tip the game in his team’s favor. As I go over recent film for both New England and Cincinnati, we look at a few aspects for the upcoming contest:
- How can the Bengals stop Julian Edelman?
- Has the running game improved enough to move the ball on New England?
- How can they get players open against a loaded Patriots’ secondary?
These Chalk Talk episodes will be available throughout the season and into the offseason. Be sure to tune in, as we continue to break down the X’s and O’s.
All of the film review content will be on SB Nation’s Cincy Jungle podcast channel, along with the other episodes of The Orange and Black Insider. New shows like the “Orange is the New Black” podcast from Ace Boogie and Zim WhoDey and “Sorry If I Spit When I Speak” from Dadio Makdook and Dr. Hodgie Smodgie have also been added to the channel’s audio slate.
