The Cincinnati Bengals have signed defensive end Freedom Akinmoladun from the practice squad to the active roster. To make room, the team also placed defensive tackle Renell Wren on the injured reserve list.

Akinmoladun, a rookie by way of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, was originally a college free agent signee of the New York Giants in May. He spent time on the Giants’ practice squad earlier this season before being released on Nov. 12 and signing to the Bengals’ practice squad on Nov. 19.

Wren, a fourth-round pick (125th overall) of the Bengals in the 2019 NFL Draft by way of the Arizona State Sun Devils, suffered a hip injury in practice on Dec. 11. He had played in 11 games this season with two starts and had eight tackles.

Out of the Bengals’ 10 selections in this year’s draft, this marks the sixth player to either have his season cut short due to injury or be waived and land elsewhere.
