Bengals kicker Randy Bullock hit the longest field goal in team history and made a successful onside kick against the Dolphins
Bullock didn’t hear about the record until after the 38-35 overtime loss to the Dolphins and even then they were probably talking about his on-side kick with 29 seconds left that made the extra session possible. Find out what the Bengals said after the Week 16 game at Miami
“There's a lot of things you want to say there in the middle of the fourth quarter as you're thinking through it. But, of course, they show the character that they've shown for me and the staff all season. They believed we were going to get it done. They did their best to get it done. Again, we came up short. When you’ve got a group of guys that play like that through 16 weeks for you, it's about us. That's what we say: it's about each other and just trying to help your brother out to the left and right and I saw that today in fourth quarter, overtime, everyone giving everything they’ve got — literally everything they’ve got — and we saw that. Here we are the middle of late December. In that way, I'll always appreciate that from those guys.”

The Dolphins’ Ryan Fitzpatrick, hitting the 419-yard mark with a 14-yard catch-and-run to wide receiver Isaiah Ford that set up the winning kick, ended up outdueling Andy Dalton’s 396 yards on an effort that turned Fitzmagic into Amazing Andy when Dalton erased a 23-point lead in the last 6:11 and 16 points in the final 29seconds.

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick had an outstanding game against the Bengals, throwing for 419 yards and four touchdowns. It was the 11th time in his 15-year career Fitzpatrick has thrown four TDs in a single game. His ability to move in and out of the pocket, anticipate throws and allow his receivers a chance at big plays down field has made a significant difference over the last two months. It has made everyone aware that even if you're not the primary target on a play, you better stay alive because the ball just might be coming your way! Fitz used 10 different receivers against the Bengals defense, which applied consistent pressure to the Cincinnati secondary.

And it all took place in a game few people outside of southern Florida and southwestern Ohio could find on their TV sets.

Around the league

What we learned from Sunday's Week 16 games
OK, maybe it wasn't that bad, but it seems almost too perfect for this snooze-filled NFC East that doesn't want to separate contender from pretender (perhaps they're one and the same?) to work toward begrudgingly deciding itself by slogging through nearly three quarters of pure attrition. Instead of trading errant shots from one trench to the other, the Cowboys and Eagles traded failed third-down conversion attempts and resulting punts.

The Cards officially ruled Murray as questionable to return but the 2019 first overall selection never did.

Saints' Michael Thomas sets NFL reception record
"To be honest, it doesn't really mean nothing," Thomas said of breaking the record, per ESPN. "I don't take it for granted. But the fact that we still have more goals as a team -- as far as not the individual stuff that comes along with it -- I would be selfish to be like, 'Oh, I just caught all these passes and did all this.' Ultimately I was catching the passes to win the game, to help my team be in the position we're in now.
