The Cincinnati Bengals have announced the hiring of three assistants for the team’s 2019 coaching staff.
They include Jemal Singleton (running backs), Joey Boese (strength and conditioning) and Doug Rosfeld (director of coaching operations).
Singleton, age 43, comes to the Bengals from the Oakland Raiders, where he was running backs coach in 2018. Previously, he was running backs coach for the Indianapolis Colts from 2016-17.
Singleton began his coaching career as a prep assistant at the Air Force Academy in 2000. After serving his military commitment, he returned to Air Force, where he continued through 2010 as varsity assistant coach (2003-05), running backs coach (’06) and running backs coach/run game coordinator (’07-10). He then coached running backs at Oklahoma State University (2011-14), before moving to the University of Arkansas, where he served both as running backs coach and special teams coordinator in ’15.
Singleton earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the Air Force Academy, where he played running back for three seasons (1996-98) and was a two-time team captain, as both a junior and a senior. The son of an Air Force Sergeant, he was born in Incirlik, Turkey.
Boese, 38, comes to the Bengals after spending the last three seasons (2016-18) as the head football strength and conditioning coach at the University of Illinois. He previously was head football strength and conditioning coach at Fresno State University from 2012-15.
Boese spent 2008-11 as assistant strength and conditioning coach at Texas A&M University under head coach Mike Sherman. While at A&M, Boese also worked as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Aggies’ baseball team from 2009-11.
Boese is a 2002 alum of the University of Wisconsin, where he played defensive back on the football team and was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. He continued his playing career in the Canadian Football League for the Calgary Stampeders from 2003-06, and then earned a master’s degree from Emporia State in ’08 before moving into the coaching ranks. He is a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) and a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Rosfeld, 39, comes to the Bengals from Cincinnati’s Moeller High School, where in his one season as football head coach (2018) at his alma mater, he led the Crusaders to a Greater Catholic League title and was named GCL Coach of the Year.
Rosfeld previously was the Director of Player Development for three seasons (2015-17) at the University of Cincinnati. Prior to UC, Rosfeld worked at Moeller from 2005-14 as offensive line coach, also serving as rugby head coach from ’09-14.
Rosfeld played center at UC from 1997-2000, starting 34 games.
