POLL: Do you approve of the Nick Eason hiring?

How do you feel about the Bengals’ new defensive line coach?

Arizona Cardinals v San Francisco 49ers

The Bengals hired Nick Eason as their defensive line coach yesterday, making Eason the first defensive assistant hired with Lou Anarumo in the fold as their defensive coordinator.

Eason was hired to be Vanderbilt's defensive line coach just this offseason. He previously was a defensive assistant at Austin Peay, where he worked mostly with their linebackers.

One thing that sets Eason apart from a lot of Zac Taylor’s staff is they personally haven’t crossed paths in the work place. Eason also has plenty of experience in the NFL; spending three seasons with the Titans and one with the Browns as a defensive line coach.

Eason spent 10 seasons in the NFL as a defensive tackle before becoming a coach. He bounced around playing with the Broncos, Browns, Steelers and Cardinals, and he finished with 128 tackles and seven sacks over his career.

Defensive line coach was not a vacancy that Taylor expected to fill. Jacob Burney, who was with Cincinnati in 2018, opted to retire after it appeared that Taylor was willing to have him return to his role. Taylor made sure to hire a defensive coordinator before any new defensive assistants.

Eason is set to takeover a group that already has Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap heading it. His main concern will be continuing to develop Carl Lawson (who missed most of last season with an injury), Sam Hubbard, Ryan Glasgow (also placed on injured reserve) and Jordan Willis.

What do you think of the hire?
