The Bengals have re-signed right tackle Bobby Hart to a three-year $21 million contract. You read that right: $21 million for three years.
Hart was a very weak link last year on the offensive line, and it was abundantly clear most of the snaps he played. At times it didn’t even look like he belonged on the field, and he was a major liability more often than not, whether it was his poor play or dumb penalties.
However, Cincinnati has opted to commit to Hart for what appears to be the long term. While we still don’t know the full details, it looks like Hart is the right tackle for the foreseeable future.
Needless to say, Twitter had a field day:
This is the worst news I’ve received all day, and I got laid off today. https://t.co/YJLeMpm8Y9— Hi. (@helloimdave) March 11, 2019
I can’t wait to see how many false starts Redmond and Hart get next year— Nick Manchester (@NickManchester9) March 11, 2019
We'll see what happens with Darqueze Dennard, but if you let him walk because you weren't willing to pay a little more, then back three years/$21M up to Bobby Hart, well, I'm not sure what to say about that.— Paul Dehner Jr. (@pauldehnerjr) March 11, 2019
I take back what I said about the Kwon Alexander contract. The Bobby Hart contract is worse. Duke Tobin, you're officially on my list. I miss @CoachPaulAlex.— Jake (@Jake_NFL) March 11, 2019
Let's see ... 32 teams times two starting tackles per team ... carry the seven ... I'm not a math whiz but I'm pretty sure 75th means you're not good enough to be a starter. https://t.co/V6FNesw8jS— Michael David Smith (@MichaelDavSmith) March 11, 2019
Let's bring back Marvin while we're at it https://t.co/QMYyg38WVW— Cathal Keane (@iamcathal) March 11, 2019

Julie'n Davenport 12
Brandon Parker (R) 10
Bobby Hart 10
Also had 11 penalties. Oof.

Bengals keep making moves like this, AJ Green is going to grow a blonde mustache. https://t.co/ZkakiUypUn— Alex Kozora (@Alex_Kozora) March 11, 2019
It feels ridiculous to say this, but this has to be one of the Bengals' dumbest moves of the last 5 years. How do you pay a bad tackle $7 million/year, giving him nearly a $6 million/year raise for terrible play? Woof.— Rebecca Toback (@Rebecca_Toback) March 11, 2019
Someone signed Bobby Hart?— Matt Miller (@nfldraftscout) March 11, 2019

So the sketchy new line coach is behind paying Bobby Hart $21 million. Zac Taylor era off to a stellar start.— Chris Roling (@Chris_Roling) March 11, 2019
Then there was the matter of people tying in what new Bengals offensive line coach had said about Hart earlier this offseason, which really added to the fire.
Fire him— Goodberry (@JoeGoodberry) March 11, 2019
Bobby Hart was more passionate and energetic about getting beat than any poor tackle I've seen before. https://t.co/2mnHKwvVj1— Sam Monson (@PFF_Sam) March 11, 2019
This pretty much sums it up though... [NSFW]
What is your reaction to this very questionable signing?
