Just when all hope seemed lost, the Bengals’ hopes of keeping Darqueze Dennard are still very alive.

According to Geoff Hobson, the two sides are still working to get a new deal done. But that won’t come easy, as the Chiefs and one other team are still pushing for Dennard, according to media reports.

Scratch that. The deal is done, according to Tom Pelissero.

There really wasn’t any question that Dennard was the Bengals’ top free agent this offseason. While he’s struggled at times, mainly while playing in the slot, Dennard has played good football for the Bengals, especially when you look at his 2017 season.

It will be interesting to see how this works out going forward. William Jackson has a starting spot locked down, and Dre Kirkpatrick’s salary demands that he too be a starter.

The Bengals also signed B.W. Webb this offseason, seemingly to replace Dennard in the slot, so it will be very interesting to see what this deal means for the cornerback group in 2019.

At the end of the day, the Bengals have re-signed all of their key free agents this offseason, as the team is hoping they can rekindle the magic this same group had when they were 4-1 last season and looked well on their way to making the NFL playoffs.
