The Bengals made another move as they signed former-Giant defensive lineman Kerry Wynn.
The team’s new defensive coordinator, Lou Anarumo, spent last year as the Giants’ defensive backs coach, so it makes sense for him to bring on another player who will likely be familiar with the system he is going to install in Cincinnati.
Wynn was the 77th ranked defensive lineman last season, according to Pro Foottbal Focus. He is more of a run stopping defensive lineman than anything, which means he could very well be taking Michael Johnson’s place on the roster.
Wynn started five games last season. He had 1.5 sacks, which tied his career high, as well as three tackles for a loss. It may not be the flashiest move, but he could very well be an upgrade over Johnson, who is 32-years-old. Wynn could fill a very similar role and instantly be inserted into a rotation that includes Carl Lawson, Sam Hubbard, Jordan Willis and Carlos Dunlap.
It is a one-year deal for Wynn, so the Bengals haven’t over committed themselves to a depth player like with other deals. It seems like a good situation for both parties.
Wynn joins B.W. Webb as a former New Yorker taking his talents to Cincinnati, but what do you guys think about the move?
