Approval Poll: Bengals select offensive tackle Jonah Williams

The Bengals start their new era with a brand new offensive lineman.

NFL: NFL Draft Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Bengals start their new era by selecting Alabama Crimson Tide offensive lineman Jonah Williams.

The draft has already been filled with many twists and turns, as you’d expect. Still, we saw the Raiders and Giants with huge reaches in their picks that allowed offensive tackle Jonah Williams out of Alabama to fall to Cincinnati.

The Bengals offensive line has been an absolute mess for quite a few seasons. Last year, the Bengals turned the 12th overall selection into Cordy Glenn and Billy Price, and with the 11th overall pick the Bengals have likely taken their starting right tackle. He also has the promise to take Glenn’s spot next season. He also has the ability to kick inside to guard if they really need him to.

Bengals fans watched as defensive tackle Ed Oliver went ninth overall to the Bills. The Steelers also jumped all the way up from the 20’s to 10th overall to snag linebacker Devin Bush. He was a name that was pretty commonly linked to the Bengals. That left Cincinnati with a few desirable names left on the board. They also always had the option to trade back if they desired.

But the Bengals ending up with Williams, which isn’t bad at all. It sets a nice tone for the Zac Taylor era with Cincinnati. When you also consider he is being added to a young core that includes William Jackson, Joe Mixon, Jessie Bates, Tyler Boyd and many more, it makes the pick look even better.

Williams hopefully comes in and instantly helps improve this offense just by erasing the biggest hole along the offensive line. The starting offensive line should be Glenn, Clint Boling, Price, John Miller (brought in via free agency) and now Williams.
