With the 52nd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals selected Washington Huskies tight end Drew Sample. This pick came after the Bengals traded down from the 42nd pick in a deal with the Broncos.
Tight end wasn’t a big need heading into the draft, but it was a position the Bengals could look to add more depth behind C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Eifert. As it turns out, they saw something special in Sample, who could become the team’s tight end of the future.
Sample is known more as a blocking tight end who was expected to be a Day 3 selection. He caught 25 passes for 252 yards and three scores in his senior season. He finished his career with 46 grabs for 487 yards and five scores.
The Bengals’ remaining top draft needs are:
LB, QB, DE, DT
