Where Andy Dalton stands in new 2019 NFL MVP odds

Don’t bet on Andy Dalton to win MVP in 2019

If you bet on Andy Dalton to win the 2019 NFL MVP, you could make a lot of money. However, that’s also assuming he wins MVP, which seems like a pipe dream for Bengals fans.

Per FanDuel, Andy Dalton has opened up tied for the 34th favorite for MVP. Being +10000, a $10 bet on Dalton could return $1,000 if he finds a way to win the league’s most coveted award.

As for the actual favorite, the top spot is reserved for third-year pro and reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.

Andrew Luck, Drew Brees, Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers round out the top five. The first running backs listed are Ezekiel Elliott and Saquon Barkley, both tied for the 12th highest odds.

That said, Andy Dalton isn’t the only Bengal listed.

Joe Mixon comes in at +15000 and A.J. Green at +20000. Nonetheless, FanDuel believes Andy Dalton has the best chance, although still marginal, of any Bengal.

Dalton is returning to Cincinnati after missing the last five games in 2018. Coming off a down year, Dalton will have a fully healthy A.J. Green and maybe even a healthy Tyler Eifert back in the lineup. Both pass-catchers were instrumental in Dalton’s best season 2015.

With Green healthy along with Tyler Boyd and Mixon primed to build off their breakout years, Dalton may find stable high-level success under the leadership of new head coach Zac Taylor that he couldn’t obtain under Marvin Lewis. While he may have great year in 2019, the recent uptick in great young quarterback play around the league will still likely keep him out of the MVP conversation by seasons’ end.

The Bengals haven’t had the league’s MVP since 1988, when quarterback and Cincinnati legend Boomer Esiason took home the trophy. Don’t expect that to change this upcoming season.
