Gerald McCoy signing with Panthers, per ESPN

McCoy will stay within the NFC South.

Gerald McCoy has reportedly made his decision.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the free agent defensive tackle will sign with the Carolina Panthers.

After being cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason, McCoy was also strongly considering offers from the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns, but he instead chose what Carolina was offering.

The Cincinnati Bengals also expressed interest in signing the stud lineman, but it was never going to work out based on the team’s cap situation and trying to re-sign guys like Tyler Boyd and A.J. Green.

The four-time All-Pro selection was commanding a contract worth around $10 million. While he would have been a great addition, the Bengals were more focused on getting their two star receivers re-signed before they’re allowed to hit free agency next offseason.

If anything, this is good news for the Bengals, as they won’t have to face McCoy twice a year now. McCoy on the Browns defensive line would have been a dreadful sight for the Bengals’ rebuilding offensive line, and the Ravens also have a quality frontline.
