Tupou has been in Cincinnati since the team signed him as an undrafted free agent back in 2017. That season, Tupou appeared in one game and spent the majority of the year on the practice squad.
2018 was a bit more shaky for Tupou. He was arrested in February of that year for being overly intoxicated at a bar, but the Bengals kept him throughout the season. He played in six games before ending up on injured reserve in November for a knee injury.
This past preseason was an impressive one for Tupou, as he’s been Andrew Billings’ backup at nose tackle and playing his best football yet. If he was on the outside looking in to begin training camp, he definitely played his way onto the roster, and deservedly so.
Earlier today, defensive tackle Andrew Brown was also informed he has made the team. Instead of cutting one of them, the Bengals will roll with six defensive tackles to open the season with Brown and Tupou both staying on.
