The Cincinnati Bengals have announced their 2019 team captains:
Offense
- QB Andy Dalton
- RB Giovani Bernard
- WR A.J. Green
Defense
- DT Geno Atkins
- DB Shawn Williams
Special Teams
- Clayton Fejedelem
Giovani Bernard may be a backup running back, but he’s one of the longest-tenured Bengals, and he’s been a great leader who just got a two-year extension worth over $10 million, which helps to show how high the Bengals are on him.
A.J. Green is one of the best in the game when he’s healthy, but even when he’s injured, he’s still the leader of this offense.
Andy Dalton is the franchise quarterback, which, for most teams, means automatic captain status.
Geno Atkins is the best player on this roster, so it only makes sense for him to be a captain.
Shawn Williams is another tenured veteran who’s become a leader on defense and is coming off arguably his best season as a pro.
And finally, Clayton Fejedelem has been a tremendous asset on special teams and even as a backup safety. He too is coming off his best season as a pro, which included his fumble returned for a score to help beat the Colts in Week 1 of last season.
