Thus ends the Bengals career of arguably the best pass-rusher in franchise history.
Dunlap, now in his 11th NFL season, has been trying to force his way out of Cincinnati in recent weeks after being demoted to a backup role player. He still clearly believes he can be an impact starter in this league, but the coaches apparently didn’t agree.
That led to Dunlap publicly voicing his displeasure with the team and his desire to be let go. He now gets his wish and lands with one of the NFC’s top Super Bowl contenders. And the Bengals manage to find someone willing to give them something for a player they were likely going to cut had they not found a suitor prior to the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 4.
As for Finney, he’s the Seahawks’ backup center but is capable of playing both left and right guard as well, so this is a nice haul for the Bengals who desperately need offensive line depth following injuries to Jonah Williams, Trey Hopkins and Bobby Hart.
Now in his fifth season, Finney was originally an undrafted free agent out of Kansas State in 2015. He spent his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and appeared in 59 games with 13 starts.
In March of 2020, Finney signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the Seahawks. He’s appeared in six games with no starts thus far and has yet to log an offensive snap but does have 29 special teams snaps.
