Bengals defensive tackle Geno Atkins has yet to practice this week, and now we know why.

According to Elise Jesse of All Bengals, Atkins is expected to miss this week’s clash with the Steelers due to a family situation but could play in Week 11 at Washington.

The two-time All-Pro has been away from the team all week due to a family situation. There is hope that he will return next week in time for Cincinnati’s road matchup with Washington.

Whatever is going on, hopefully Atkins and his family are doing better heading into the weekend. Family always takes priority over football, so Atkins should take all the time off he needs to be with his loved ones during what’s been a very challenging year for everyone.

2020 has already been a season to forget for Atkins, who has played just 68 defensive snaps this season. A shoulder injury suffered in training camp led to Atkins missing the first four games before he made his debut in the Week 5 loss to the Ravens.

Since returning, Atkins has logged an average of 17 snaps per game as he’s still getting back into a groove.

Here’s to hoping and praying all is well with the Atkins family.
