The strongest unit on the Bengals’ defense is the secondary, with Jessie Bates looking like an All-Pro and even Vonn Bell and Shawn Williams rising up against the Tennessee Titans in Week 8.

The team’s best corner, William Jackson III, will be a free agent this offseason. So what are the Bengals’ plans for him?

We discussed with team reporter Marisa Contipelli in the video below:

In short, Bengals management is impressed with the strides he’s made this year.

“I think William Jackson has played much better this year. He kinda needed this season, the way he’s performing, going into his contract year,” she said.

Jackson has been targeted 38 times this year and allowed 22 receptions while picking off one pass. His coverage grade, according to Pro Football Focus, is 69.6. In other words, he’s a solid starter.

In terms of a timeline for an extension, Contipelli said, “I would expect for those conversations to start happening later in December and January.”

When I asked if Jackson is in the team’s long-term plans, she replied, “Yeah, I would assume so. I mean, I feel like he’s proving his worth out there.”
