Should Ryan Finley start over Brandon Allen?

Finley was the captain of the offense in the Bengals’ surprising victory over the Steelers on Monday Night Football.

The second-year Ryan Finley was announced as the starter against the 11-2 Pittsburgh Steelers.

Well, I should now say 11-3 Pittsburgh Steelers, as the Finley-led Bengals handed the Steelers their third-straight loss.

It was a rough first half that had both a quick brawl and multiple injuries. But, without it, would it really be a Bengals-Steelers game?

That said, the Bengals’ 6-foot-4 2019 fourth-round pick was given the start after being passed over earlier in the year for Brandon Allen, who had started three games for the team in 2019.

Although his numbers weren’t there and the defensive in the first half played as good as they have all season, Finley found a way to help up 17 points. Finley had seen time in three games this season and had accrued 19 pass attempts and two interceptions.

Against the Steelers, he went for no interception and one touchdown. He captained a team that scored 27 points, despite him not reaching 100 yards. Finley had 10 carries for 47 yards and another touchdown.

However, there’s no denying Allen has proven himself as the more capable passer.

Against the Cowboys, an embarrassing 30-7 loss from a week ago, Allen threw for over 200 yards and one touchdown, completing 75% of his attempts. His numbers, especially his rock-solid completion percentage, have been halfway decent this season.

It’s going to be tough for Zac Taylor, and he’s not going to necessarily want to continue changing who starts given how embarrassing of a loss the other one has the week before.

I’d guess Finley will be starting going into Week 16 after his performance against Pittsburgh, a game in which Big Ben and company really beat themselves and clearly showed several inefficiencies in their offense and injury-stricken defense.

That said, let’s hear from you.
