Former Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was arrested early Saturday on a misdemeanor battery charge in Nevada, according to Clark County court records and a report from ESPN.
Clark County Detention Center records state that Burfict was being held on $1,000 bond. There’s a hearing in the case set for Monday.
Burfict, a college free agent signee of the Bengals from 2012, played 75 games with the Bengals from 2012-2018. In 2019, Burfict was cut by the Bengals shortly after Zac Taylor was hired to replace Marvin Lewis as head coach. He joined the Oakland Raiders during that offseason and was suspended after just four games for an illegal hit against Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle. Burfict’s suspension lasted the remainder of the season.
The NFL reinstated Burfict on February 24th and has since remained a free agent.
That 12-game suspension was the fourth suspension in Burfict’s NFL career. The linebacker was suspended three times for a total of 12 games when he was with the Bengals, and that was the extent of Burfict’s troubles. By all accounts, Burfict had lived a trouble-free life off of the field when he was in Cincinnati.
There are no further details regarding Burfict’s arrest, but we will inform you of them when they’re released.
