The Bengals got off to a fast start in their Week 13 matchup with the Dolphins, taking a 7-3 lead into the final minute of the second quarter.
It looked like the Bengals would add to their lead after driving deep into Miami territory right before halftime.
But then, disaster struck.
Following an incomplete pass on 3rd down, Bengals wide receiver Tyler Boyd got into a sideline scuffle with Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard. Both players would be escorted back to their respective sidelines, and after a long discussion by officials, Boyd and Howard were ejected from the game. Boyd caught a 72-yard touchdown earlier in the game.
Making matters worse was Randy Bullock missed the ensuing field goal, and the Dolphins drove right down the field before halftime to add a field goal, cutting Cincinnati’s lead to 7-6.
It’s unclear why the Bengals were penalized 15 yards on Bullock’s field-goal try, but it turned out to be costly, as a potential 10-3 lead is now only a 7-6 margin.
Howard and Boyd kicked out for this. Bengals also penalized 15 yards, but not off-setting? #Bengals pic.twitter.com/shkDYx6rlZ

Is Xavien Howard the first player in NFL history to be ejected without being penalized?
