Many fans will quickly flock to see what kind of stats Thomas had in that high powered offense, but those fans may be disappointed to find he played very sparingly. Why is this a noteworthy signing then? Because Thomas was a solid special teamer for the Rams. The Bengals really need to fill holes in their special teams left by Clayton Fejedelem and Tony McRae, and it appears Thomas will have every chance to fight for his spot.
Taylor may also see an opening for Thomas to come in and compete at the wide receiver position, but his one-year contract doesn’t leave the team too committed that they’d feel like drafting a receiver early would be a waste. Thomas would qualify as a dark horse candidate at any playing time at wide receiver, unless the team gets riddled with injuries again. However, that depth he is providing is something he would hopefully be able to take advantage of if called on, which is something the Bengals haven’t had the most luck with lately.
At the end of the day, Thomas is a nice signing because he gets to come in and push the bottom of the receiver depth chart as well as hopefully contribute on special teams. He obviously has plenty of familiarity with the offensive system, so he is going to come in ahead of schedule compared to most other free agents as well. Not so bad for a low risk signing.

Sounds like a nice addition for special teams
As long as the Bengals don’t pass up adding a receiver in the draft it is fine
I wish they would’ve signed a more accomplished receiver.
