Bengals beat out Browns and others in battle for Vonn Bell

It’s one thing for the Bengals to spend money, it’s another thing for them to win a bidding war.

It’s a great time to be a Bengals fan.

Not only are the Bengals spending money and signing free agents, they are actually outbidding other teams.

The Bengals signed safety Vonn Bell to a 3-year, $18 million deal on Wednesday. Not only did they sign an outside free agent of this caliber, they beat the Browns and other teams in a bidding war, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

It’s good to see the Bengals beating other teams in a bidding war, especially a division rival.

The Bengals have been on the losing end of bidding wars many times, like the one for Joe Shobert. It’s entirely possible that the Bengals lost bidding wars to the Jaguars for their own free agents also, like Tyler Eifert and Darqueze Dennard. We’ve also been hearing about failed negotiations with A.J. Green, and the Bengals need to resort to the franchise tag.

So when the Bengals finally win one, it’s good news.

It also shows a shift in the mentality of the front office. They are becoming more aggressive and it’s paying off. Bell is not only bringing his football abilities to Cincinnati, but a breath of fresh air and optimism for the future of the franchise.
