The Orange and Black Insider Bengals podcast: Getting It Right

Our podcast continues its lucky streak of hosting special guests, as ESPN’s Ben Baby joined us. We talked about the major moves made by the Bengals this offseason.

As the Cincinnati Bengals’ offseason rolls on, the second and most important facet to their roster re-creation is just around the corner. The team made significant initial steps to vastly improve their defense in free agency, particularly on defense, but the centerpiece of the franchise and more supporting cast members are forthcoming in roughly two weeks.

It’s been an exciting start of 2020 for those of us covering the team. Sure, bearing through a franchise-worst (tied) record of 2-14 in 2019 was brutal, but the netted high picks have a provided a shining spotlight on the team.

On The Orange and Black Insider, we welcomed in another high-profile guest to talk shop. Ben Baby of ESPN chatted with us on a myriad of topics, including what we should expect from the club in the seven digital rounds of the NFL Draft coming up in a couple of weeks.

Some of the items for discussion with Ben Baby included:

  • Who are some possible dark horse candidates for picks in rounds 2-7 to emerge as the draft nears?
  • Are the Bengals well-prepared to engage in a virtual draft?
  • As we approach the draft, what is the most likely outcome of Andy Dalton’s future at this point?
  • What move in free agency, be it by addition or subtraction, was the most significant and why?
  • What prospects from his home state of Texas seem to be the most promising for the Bengals’ needs?

We also looked at a clip from Zac Taylor, courtesy of Jeremy Rauch of FOX 19, speaking on Dalton’s future in our “Soundbite of the Week”. And, as the draft creeps nearer, we start to close out our 2020 Prospect Watch List.
