The middle and late rounds of the NFL Draft is often where a team’s depth and roster substance can be found. Many players who are drafted in Rounds 3-7 have first-round traits, but many factors playing into their wait in hearing their name called.
One such player is UNC Charlotte defensive end, Alex Highsmith. A former walk-on who excelled in various sports, Highsmith quickly became a scholarship student-athlete after the coaches saw his talents.
As it sits right now, Highsmith is set to be a day three draftee. However, he’s a player who flashed a lot of skill, as evidenced by his 14 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss in 13 games with the 49ers last year.
We get the chance to sit down with Highsmith on The Orange and Black Insider, as he approaches one of the biggest weekends of his professional life. Guest co-host and show producer James Claydon makes his debut on the show as we speak to one of the biggest potential sleepers in this year’s class.
