Just an hour ago, it was reported that the Cincinnati Bengals have told Joe Burrow he’ll be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Gambling agencies were so confident in this a few days ago, that if you put a $1,000 wager on Burrow as the top pick, you’d win just $1. That comes out to -100,000, an insane level of confidence.
These odds are according to ESPN’s Ben Hawkes. He noted FanDuel Sportsbook’s currently bettings on April 20, three days prior to the commencement of the 2020 NFL Draft.
For fans that want the Bengals, the NFL’s worst team in 2019 with just two wins, to bring in their quarterback of the future, these are only more telling.
Unless they type the wrong name in their Microsoft Teams message to the commissioner, Burrow, the superstar quarterback from Louisiana State University, will be announced as the team’s first-overall pick.
A Heisman trophy winner in 2019, Burrow took his game to a next level throughout his fifth collegiate season. He threw 60 touchdowns and ended with over a 76% completion rate.
While there isn’t too much film on Burrow as he only dominated the college ranks one season, his patience and leadership prove that longevity at the amateur level matter very little.
The only weakness most note is that Burrow doesn’t necessarily have the cannon of other top-tier prospects. However, his elite play combined with his clear NFL potential has teams drooling.
That said, there are even been thoughts that Burrow could be worth three or four first-round picks. However, that conversation has been put to bed, as the more a team like Dolphins could’ve offered, the more validated the Bengals would’ve felt in staying put and picking Burrow.
