Burrow or Young?.... Why not both?

Ok i'll admit the likelihood of this is just not exactly realistic. However, PFF has their mock draft simulator up and I've been having fun playing with it. According to their machine, trading our 3rd this year (65), with our 2nd and 4th next year, we could land the redskins' 2nd overall pick this year.

Of course, if we were going to make a trade like this, there's almost certainly someone who will bid more, but it's interesting to think about. I could actually see a scenario where the new coaching staff isn't exactly sold on Haskins right now. Rivera has come out and said Kyle Allen might actually make more sense for him to start if training camp is hindered this year due to the virus. He coached him last season in Carolina so there's a comfort there, but i highly doubt he's looking at Kyle Allen long-term. This isn't a well-run org, and with a new staff that's iffy on their QB situation, they're likely looking wherever they can currently. If they're (understandably) worried about Tua's health, and can't meet him in person right now for obvious reasons, they could very well not like any of the other QBs in this class, since none of them are great prospects. This could lead them to looking at next year's crop of Lawrence and co. picking up a 2nd and a 4th next year would allow them some ammo to move up if they need to, and crazy things happen for QBs with hype around them, especially from a franchise like the Redskins.

so that's what this is based off of, and I finished out the mock with another interesting trade that i think has a better chance of happening, so we'll get to that

obviously our 1st and 2nd pick grabs Burrow and Young.

after that though, we only have 33 before going all the way down to 107. This is where we utilize our premium day 2 pick to trade down. a team like chicago, who has 2 mid 2nd round picks, could fall in love with a player who fell out of the 1st round. PFF's mock machine thinks that there's enough value difference there, we could actually get a scenario where they'd trade 43 and 50, for our 33 and 215. this, IMO, is somewhat realistic and would pretty much be best case scenario with our 33rd pick.

going with this, i picked up Ezra Cleveland with 43, which gives us a promising RT to usurp Hart.

after that, the chiefs wanted to move up to 50. we landed 63, and 96 (their late 3rd rounder), and we threw in our 180th pick to add a bit of extra value in their favor to make that happen. With these picks, i took Akeem Davis-Gaither and NIck Harris, filling huge needs at good value for each player IMO

shortly after that, we get Harrison Bryant at 107. having a good receiving TE is very important, and we're currently lacking in that department. day 3 is where i see us targeting that, if we do at all. Bryant is one of the few TEs in this class who looks the part, and he'd be good value here. after that, at 147, we cap off the draft by taking Jordyn Brooks, for added LB depth.

TL;DR: we get -

Burrow

Young

Cleveland

Gaither

Nick Harris

Harrison Bryant

Jordyn Brooks

we lose: next year's 2nd and 4th round picks

again, it's not the most realistic thing, but it's within relative reason, so i thought it's worth sharing what PFF's trade calculator allowed us to do, just as food for thought on how cool this draft could actually play out.
