Before next season kicks off, whenever that may be, one of the Bengals’ biggest priorities is getting a contract extension done for Joe Mixon.
Entering his fourth NFL season, Mixon already ranks 10th in franchise history in career rushing yards after going for 2,931 over his first three years. He’s one of the best league’s best young running backs and is primed for a big payday.
The Bengals hope to give it to him this year. And according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Mixon and the team have had productive contract talks.
Will be a big few months for RBs from ‘17 draft class trying to bolster position. Vikings’ Dalvin Cook and Bengals’ Joe Mixon have had productive talks with their teams about new deals, I’m told, though nothing is close at this time. Saints value Alvin Kamara. Unfortunately, Mixon isn’t the only key Bengal primed for a new contact. Star wide receiver A.J. Green is also hoping to land an extension from the Bengals, as he’s currently set to play next season under the franchise tag.
Back in April, a report emerged that the Bengals were further along in contract talks with Green than they were with Mixon. The hope is both players have agreed to new contracts before next season begins, though Green’s extension has a deadline of July 15th since he’s got the franchise tag.
That’s likely why the team has made more progress with Green, but it’s good to hear there have been productive talks with Mixon as well.
