Even Bengals fans get that the Bengals aren’t the most attractive team in the NFL.
Cincinnati is a small(ish) city, the Bengals don’t have a new(ish) stadium, and the team’s record was 2-14 last year.
However, things are turning around. The Bengals have a young head coach entering his second year on the job, a brand new franchise quarterback, and a revamped defense.
The Bengals are so interesting now that even the national media took a break from bashing the them. In fact, Adam Schein of NFL.com thinks the Bengals are a top bandwagon to join.
Here’s what he said about the Bengals:
I’m kind of obsessed with what’s going on in Cincy. Joe Burrow has it. He’s going to change the perception — and reality — with the Bengals in the coming years. And I love how the team immediately supported him with the second-round selection of WR Tee Higgins.
The Bengals also (finally) spent money in free agency, smartly addressing the front and back of the defense (see: DT D.J. Reader, CB Trae Waynes, S Vonn Bell). I don’t expect a playoff bid in 2020. This team just went 2-14, after all. But I love where Cincy is headed.
While the Bengals may not be playoff contenders next year, this is a great time to buy some Bengals gear and take pictures. A few years down the road, you might need to prove you’re already a fan.
Not only will the Bengals be a different franchise in 2020, but their activity in the offseason indicates a change in philosophy. The Bengals will be a different team going forward compared to the one we’re used to seeing. Most of the players drafted by Marvin Lewis have been booted off the team, and the culture has clearly been shifted in another direction.
So if you or your friends want to join the Bengals’ bandwagon, now is a great time to hop aboard.
