Chalk Talk: Ravens 2 and 3-back formations

New, comment

The Ravens had a lot of success and a lot of tendency in heavy backfield looks.

On the latest edition of Chalk Talk, we’re taking a look at the Ravens’ run-heavy offense that’s controlled the AFC North for two straight years.

The Ravens made great use of their tight ends and full back as both lead blockers and backside blockers in 2019. To do this they put these players in the backfield. The Ravens’ standard Pistol look would be bolstered with 1 or 2 of these players lined up beside quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Throughout my series on the Ravens, I have talked about tendencies. These backsets can serve as strong indicators of what the offense might be running.

Take a look at the Ravens 2 and 3 back formations and how they utilize motion to get into them.
