Sports Illustrated pegs A.J. Green as a mid-round steal in fantasy football

Green will be a high-risk, high-upside draftee in 2020.

I’m still mad.

After an injury-prone campaign in 2018, A.J. Green’s draft value in 2019 was dismal. I took the bait. Green joined my team as an eight-round pick.

Now, he’ll again be in a position where he could make-or-break your fantasy football team.

However, Sports Illustrated’s Frankie Taddeo is pegging Green as a mid-round steal. Mentioning Green is any discussion is tough because, yes, if he is healthy, he could be a top-five receiver that you get on an extreme discount.

“Many fantasy owners have soured on Green, but you should not be one of them. As we know, we haven’t seen Green in between the white lines since 2018 due to injuries. However, since he has his name written in red ink on many owners’ draft boards, we are seeing the former fantasy stud fall into the fifth round or later.... If Green is healthy, he could easily be the steal of drafts,” Taddeo wrote.

He also mentions Joe Burrow, the Bengals 2020 first-round pick. The top overall pick in the draft, Burrow will step into the franchise and be the starting quarterback from Day 1 as Andy Dalton is now a Cowboy.

Combine Green, Burrow, Joe Mixon and Tyler Boyd, and this team could have one of the most dynamic offenses in the AFC. The playmakers are there, and while they’ll need help from an underwhelming line, if Green is at his peak, this offense will put points on the board.

That will result to points for your fantasy team if you invest in Green. But, it doesn’t come without a risk. Green has played in just 35 games over the last four seasons, missing all of 2019.

Green is playing for something this season. He’ll be looking to showcase his value for a long-term contract. Frankly, for Green, millions will be on the line, which will help his will to come back as strong as ever.

Let’s hope for both fantasy purposes and his impact on this team that he’ll bounce back as healthy as ever. If he does, then he’ll certainly be a big-time steal for anyone playing fantasy football.
