The biggest change in the Bengals play calling in Weeks 10-17 vs Weeks 1-8 was a massive increase in the number of toss plays. This is an excellent play for the Bengals and their athletic offensive linemen. As a result of running more toss, running back Joe Mixon had a great success in the second half of the season.
In this video I look at the toss play and how the Bengals ran it differently based on the defensive front.
Sometimes they pulled the play-side guard and center. Other times they pulled the play-side tackle and the play-side guard. And then there were times that they would pull only one lineman. Why?
At times they played didn’t pull anybody, but is that really a toss?
