The Cincinnati Bengals hit the practice field in full pads today for the first time as they prepare for the upcoming 2020-21 season.
Some unfortunate injury news is that nose tackle Renell Wren (leg injury) and receiver A.J. Green (hamstring) were not in pads due to the injuries. However, Green was present at the practice but not in pads and his injury is not believed to be serious.
During Tuesday’s practice, safety Shawn Williams had to be carted off the field after it appeared that he tweaked something.
On the other side of injury news, second-round draft pick Tee Higgins was in pads following his issues with a hamstring injury, though he was held out of team drills.
Here is a Twitter roundup of the first padded practice of 2020:

It’s hard to see, but Shawn Williams was just carted off the field. He went down during position drills #Bengals pic.twitter.com/HNnulmX9Yp

Tee Higgins listed height and weight (6’4, 216) doesn’t do him justice. Looks even more imposing at field level #Bengals pic.twitter.com/2PA7CeNWcw

The #Bengals defensive line has gotten to Joe Burrow a couple of times in the early stages of 11-on-11. Here he is avoiding a sack ⬇️ pic.twitter.com/lbgQQSx3hl

The Bengals are scheduled to play their first game on September 13th. I'd be more than happy if the next route AJ Green ran was on that date.

First-team defense got the best of the first-team offense during the initial part of 11-on-11. Joe Burrow started 0 for 3. His two completed passes during 11-on-11 have been to Tyler Boyd.

Mixed bag for Joe in red zone 7-on-7. 6-12 with 3 TDS to Boyd and one to Thomas

Joe Burrow also just rolled to his right and hit Tyler Boyd in the back right corner of the end zone for a TD in 7-on-7

Carlos Dunlap with two interceptions in red zone drill one off Ryan Finley and the other a Joe Burrow pass that was tipped and Dunlap and dove to catch #Bengals

After a great start Monday, the #Bengals offense had a rough one today. No one getting open, lots of balls on the ground and Joe Burrow and Ryan Finley both threw red zone INTs, both by Carlos Dunlap.

The defense clearly won the day. 11-on-11 ended with a deflected Joe Burrow pass that was intercepted by Carlos Dunlap. #Bengals

Joe Burow on the offensive line: "Those guys have to be my best friends. To make them happy so they'll fight for me." Added that they'll be receiving some nice Christmas presents this year.

Zac Taylor on A.J. Green: We're going to be very cautious with him. Nothing I'm concerned with him right now. He wasn't going to participate in scrimmage anyway.

A little tightness in hamstring area. "Nothing I'm concerned with right now." #Bengals
