Joe Mixon tweets ‘we have an understanding’

Deciphering the tweets of athletes can be an interesting endeavor to say the least.

One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Bengals right now is the contract situation with star running back Joe Mixon. Arguably the Bengals’ most important offensive player over the last three years, Mixon is primed for a major payday from someone if he’s allowed to hit unrestricted free agency.

The Bengals and Mixon obviously hope they can get a deal done and pay him the big bucks now, but it remains to be seen if they’ll get an extension done.

In the meantime, Mixon has posted some interesting tweets this week, the most intriguing being today when he said “we have an understanding.”

Perhaps the Bengals and Mixon are nearing a contract extension?

Maybe it’s related to the contract talks but not directly about an extension (like the team agreed not to franchise tag him)?

Mixon included a finger pointing up emoji, so maybe he thinks he’s the NFL’s No. 1 running back?

For what it’s worth, ESPN Bengals reporter Ben Baby said he doesn’t think this is related to Mixon’s potential contract extension.

This actually comes two days after Mixon tweeted “got some big decisions to make,” to which Bengals safety Shawn Williams replied by telling Mixon to “just sign on the dotted line brotha.”

We can only hope Mixon is, in fact, signing on the dotted line very soon...
