In the last three years, the Bengals have been able to retain four core players with contract extensions during the final portion of each offseason. Joe Mixon is the latest and maybe the most controversial depending on who you ask.
For most of Bengals Twitter, and football Twitter as well, Mixon’s reported four-year, $48 million deal is universally adored. The Bengals will keep one of their most popular and talented players while also making sure an ascending vocal leader remains a part of its young locker room.
These were the best reactions to the Mixon news we saw online.
1) some upside is that the signing bonus prorates into this year, offsetting some of the cap implications later.

2) glad Mixon got his bag
3) we need guarantee details
4) without knowing 3, this looks like more money than I want a franchise to spend on a rb https://t.co/vCJ8v6BEpk
It's a bad deal for the Bengals. Paying any RB is willingly wasting resources that could go elsewhere. But we like Mixon. https://t.co/PHUB36WVbl

Mixon made his most positive impact as a receiver last year. We need more of that. Much much more.

Five more years... that's a spectacular deal for Mixon https://t.co/0SSTwupC9P

Only 3 running backs have rushed for at least 1,100 yards in each of the last 2 seasons...

I’m really high on Joe Mixon. REALLY HIGH. One of the leagues best 3-down backs. Hopefully Bengals turn it around and don’t waste his best years.

RBs who can create their own space, you pay. RBs who can't are replaceable. Joe Mixon is a creator. https://t.co/GPwCcMCP87

Here's an interesting nugget from @ESPNStatsInfo: Last season, Joe Mixon averaged 9.5 yards after the catch per reception, trailing only Dalvin Cook (11.3) and Austin Ekeler (10.4) in the NFL.

Want to know if the Mixon extension was a good one? Ask Browns/Steelers/Ravens fans if they're excited to deal with him for five more seasons.

Good for Mixon. Good for any player. Get paid when you can.

It distracted me from current Reds misery so I would say today is a good day. Until the reds play tonight

A little more than ideal, but I’m happy.

Mixon is near elite status.

The news came right as the Bengals were getting ready to practice for the first time since their scrimmage on Sunday.

After practice, in which he participated in, Mixon took to Twitter for the first time since inking his new deal. Tyler Boyd, who signed his extension during last year’s training camp, offered his support.
