The deal finally got done.
The Cincinnati Bengals inked their bell cow running back to a four-year extension on Tuesday, ensuring Joe Mixon will be staying in The Queen City through 2024. Mixon has earned the deal with his performances, but questions remain on the value of paying big money to the running back position.
John and I discussed the pros, cons and details of the contract, while also providing a “Soundbite of the Week”. The 2020 Bengals Potential Breakout Players lists also concludes, as the regular season is roughly a week away.
Here are some of the facets that were touched on this week:
- With players like A.J. Green, William Jackson III, Carl Lawson and John Ross all entering contract years, was paying Mixon an average of $10 million over the next five years a wise move?
- Chargers star defensive back, Derwin James, is out for the 2020 season, while Cincinnati will be facing Tyrod Taylor at quarterback in Week 1.
- The Bengals made a powerful statement this past weekend on social issues, led by Trey Hopkins, Joe Burrow and owner Mike Brown.
- Could relatively-unknown defensive lineman Freedom Akinmoladun sneak on to the roster and be a productive rotational player up front this year?
