How many running backs will the Bengals keep on their first 53-man roster? As of now, they only have but four to chose from.

Running back Jacques Patrick is being waived by the Bengals, per The Athletic’s Jay Morrison.

Patrick is not your ordinary first-year player. Earlier in 2020, he was a running back for the XFL’s Tampa Bay Vipers. He finished third in the league in rushing yards (254) after five games before the league dissolved.

Patrick signed a three-year contract with the Bengals on April 17th of this year, soon after he was out of a job in the XFL.

During the Bengals’ first scrimmage in training camp, Patrick was turning heads as a runner. He was making the most of his limited reps, but ultimately, couldn’t advance himself over the likes of Samaje Perine and Trayveon Williams.

Patrick has a good chance of clearing waivers and returning to the Bengals as a member of their 16-man practice squad.
