The Cincinnati Bengals are remodeling their positional coaches. Bringing in a new wide receiver coach and offensive line coach, they turned their attention this time to the defensive line.
This past season, the Bengals were led by Carl Lawson and had to deal with the drama created by Carlos Dunlap. Also having Sam Hubbard and Geno Atkins gives this unit a boost.
Without Dunlap and with Lawson entering free agency, this could be a completely different corps next season. While the re-signing of Lawson is likely, it may depend on who they bring in to coach the star.
The Bengals released on Sunday that they hired Marion Hobby. Hobby is coming over from Miami. Miami beat the Bengals this season and also finished the season in the top ten in sack percentage.
Hobby seems to be a solid and experienced addition.
He’s coming from Miami where he spent two seasons and was with the Jaguars two seasons before that, in defensive line coaching positions at both organizations. He also has experience within the New Orleans Saints and Clemson Tigers’ programs.
“We are excited for Marion to join the Bengals. He brings great experience and is a perfect fit with our staff and defensive line room. We look forward to welcoming him and his family to Cincinnati,” head coach Zac Taylor said in the team’s press release.
Remember when we mentioned that the Hobby-led unit was in the top-ten in sack percentage? Well, the Nick Eason-led Bengals were dead last. The Bengals needed a change up, and adding someone with Hobby’s type of experience is ideal.
That said, do you think he’ll be the right hire for the Bengals?
