The Jim Turner era in Cincinnati is coming to an end.
Elise Jesse is reporting that the Bengals are parting ways with their embattled offensive line coach, as well as defensive line coach Nick Eason and defensive assistant Gerald Chatman. ESPN reporter Ben Baby has since confirmed the news.
Football Scoop is reporting that Turner may land on his feet in the former of the Tennessee Volunteers’ next offensive line coach (Tennessee loves hiring the most unlikable coaches imaginable, so he’d fit in great there).
It was pretty much a given that several Bengals assistants would be let go following a third-straight double-digit loss season, two of which coming under Zac Taylor’s watch. Even without this shocking two-game winning streak by the Bengals, the front office could not overlook all the issues that have plagued the team, leading to a 2-10-1 start this season.
Turner, Eason and Chatman were all part of Taylor’s first staff assembled in 2019. Since then, the Bengals have been consistently manhandled on both sides of the trenches, so it’s no surprise to see three coaches part of those units being let go.
It’s unclear if there will be more assistants let go, but if there are more, we should hear of them early next week.
