At least two of Zac Taylor’s assistants will return to the Bengals coaching staff.
Assistant offensive line coach Ben Martin and defensive quality control coach Jordan Kovacs will return to the Bengals for the 2021 season, per a report from AllBengals.com.
Martin and Kovacs both joined Taylor’s original staff back in 2019. Martin was an offensive assistant for the Dolphins from 2014-2015 when Taylor was also on the staff as the quarterbacks coach. Kovacs was a safety for the Dolphins during those years. Taylor has publicly praised Kovacs in his two years as a defensive assistant, so it’s no surprise that he’s returning.
While Martin is coming back, offensive line coach Jim Turner isn’t expected to return. This could mean that Martin will retain his original role as the assistant OL coach, or he’ll be promoted to Turner’s role. The former seems more likely than the later considering how important re-building the offensive line will be this offseason.
