Amidst the Kenny Golladay news, the Cincinnati Bengals did re-sign one of their own receivers.

As first reported by Damond Talbot of NFL Draft Diamonds, Mike Thomas is coming back to the Bengals. Jay Morrison of The Athletic confirms the deal is for just one year.

Thomas, a sixth-year player in 2021, was originally a sixth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL Draft. He stayed with the Rams for the first four years of his career, including both years Zac Taylor was on their staff as an assistant offensive coach. In his 40 games with the Rams, Thomas accumulated just 144 receiving yards on 10 receptions.

Last offseason, Thomas reunited with Taylor by signing a one-year deal with the Bengals. In 14 games played, he nearly matched his career production with the Rams, finishing the season with 132 yards and a touchdown on 13 receptions. Thomas was also a prominent special teams contributor, though his most notable moment was a late hit against the Miami Dolphins as a punt gunner.

Thomas—who turns 27 this August—is a decent backup receiver who has obvious familiarity with Taylor’s scheme. His retention is more about filling the depth at wide receiver instead of eliminating the chances of adding a starter at the position.
