Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin spoke to the media Wednesday.
Among the revelations were that:
- Joe Burrow hasn’t been lobbying for LSU wide receiver - and Burrow’s former favorite target - Ja’Marr Chase, contrary to the rumors
- The team was impressed with Chase’s Pro Day as well as that of offensive tackle Penei Sewell out of Oregon.
- The Bengals probably won’t be trading out of the fifth overall spot
On that last point, Tobin had the following to say about trading down:
“Yeah, we’re willing to talk about it. It has to be right. I don’t anticipate going down to a point where we’re losing the level of player we’re looking at right now. I think we’re in a good spot in this draft to get one of the guys who is a premier talent.”
Furthermore, Tobin wants an immediate starter, not just a good prospect. He said, “Anybody we take with that fifth pick, the expectation is he’s going to come in and help us win immediately and play a big role.”
