One of the more underrated needs for the Bengals is their need at running back, and I think it is partially because it is one of those needs that they can address with a Day 3 pick. So I wanted to talk about one of my favorite Day 3 picks at RB in Maryland RB Jake Funk.
The 2018 and 2019 seasons both ended for Funk due to ACL tears, not an easy injury to rehab from. However, he came back in 2020 with the potential to be their starting RB for the season. Of course they only ended up playing five games and he missed one with a minor injury. So he still never got a real chance to show his stuff, but in the four games he played, he averaged 140 yards per game. As a bonus, he was a phenomenal special teams player early on in his college career, which is something the Bengals put a high priority on.
With that said let’s take a quick look at his athleticism.
- Height: 5’10”
- Weight: 204 pounds
- 40-yard dash: 4.49
- Broad Jump: 122”
- Vertical Jump: 38”
- Shuttle: 4.12
- 3-cone: 6.71
