With the 149th pick in the NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals have selected Florida Gators kicker Evan McPherson.
As one of the top kickers in this year’s draft, McPherson made 51 of his 60 career field goals at Florida and missed just one of 150 extra points. He was five of eight from beyond 50 yards and 11 of 15 from 40-49 yards.
This is the first time the Bengals have drafted a kicker since they took Jake Elliott with the the 153rd pick in the 2017 draft. So there is a precedent of the Bengals selecting a kicker early on Day 3.
Obviously, Elliott didn’t last long in Cincinnati, and their decision to keep Randy Bullock over him doesn’t look so wise in hindsight. Four years later, McPherson will presumably battle with incumbent Austin Siebert, and if things go well, McPherson will actually make the roster.
