When the Bengals selected kicker Evan McPherson out of Florida in the fifth round, they got more than a replacement for Randy Bullock.
As a true freshman, McPherson connected on 89.5% of his field goals and was perfect on extra point attempts. He hit that same percentage the next year while only missing on one extra point attempt. And last year, he was perfect on extra points and completed 77.3% of his field goals, including four conversions from 50-plus yards with a long of 55. Meanwhile, 241 kickoffs of his kickoffs in his college career resulted in touchbacks.
But forget the game stats for a second. McPherson is simply a phenom. Former players have raved about him on and off the field, including the Bengals’ kicker from 2003-2009, Shayne Graham, who is the special teams quality control coach for the Gators.
I can’t even tell you how proud I am of you @McPherson_Evan— Shayne graham (@Shaynegraham17) May 1, 2021
Such a hard worker, elite talent, explosive leg, and even better person. It was an absolute honor to be your coach for the time I had with you. I love you and look forward to you being solid for many years to come. https://t.co/eZNdQKqVAx
And former Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee praised McPherson’s leg while also sneaking in a jab about the Bengals not having an indoor practice facility.

Congrats @McPherson_Evan on getting drafted to the Bengals.
AFC North kicking is NOT easy.. the good news is, there’s somehow still no indoor practice facility in Cincy.. he’s gonna be battling all day every day.
I think he’s gonna be GREAT #ForTheBrand
If those endorsements aren’t enough, perhaps this amazing clip will convince you of McPherson’s sky-high potential:
Swamp747’s Thomas Goldkamp explained the video, from January of 2020, as follows:
“[McPherson] launches a high kick from the 20-yard line inside the UF indoor practice facility up at a Gatorade bottle on top of a metal bar that hangs a mesh screening to protect one of the walls in the IPF. The ball slices just left of the bottle off McPherson’s foot, apparently spinning the cap off the bottle without the bottle falling off the metal rail it’s sitting on.”
We discussed McPherson’s ridiculous ability in the video below.
