Not many starters saw much playing time for the Bengals, and several did not play at all, including QB Joe Burrow.
Among the highlights for the Bengals was Ja’Marr Chase’s first NFL catch, which was a 16-yard reception, interceptions by Trayvon Henderson and Kavon Frazier, and a rushing touchdown for running back Chris Evans.
In addition to the two interceptions, the Bengals’ defense recorded four sacks, with rookie Darius Hodge leading the way with 1.5 sacks and five QB hits.
Fellow rookie Joseph Ossai racked up a sack, two QB hits and several other pressures before going down with a wrist injury, which was arguably the biggest downer of the night for Cincinnati.
Under center, Brandon Allen got the start and went an impressive 7/10 throwing for 77 yards.
Former Vanderbilt standout Kyle Shurmur then took over and finished the game at quarterback and went 12/19 for 108 yards and a brutal pick-six that almost sparked a Buccaneers rally late in the game.
Four quarterbacks played for the Buccaneers with starter and seven-time Super Bowl-champion Tom Brady attempting just two passes, Ryan Griffin being held to 6/11 passing with two interceptions, Blaine Gabbert also going 6/11, and rookie Kyle Trask went 4/15 after being a Heisman finalist last season with the Florida Gators.
With all that said and a victory to cap it all off, how would you grade the Bengals preseason opener?
