Taylor and Patrick came close to making the 53-man roster, but they’ll still be sticking around for the time being.

UPDATE

Per Jay Morrison and Mike Garafolo, the Cincinnati Bengals have signed Jacques Patrick and Trent Taylor to the practice squad.

The Bengals ended up keeping seven wide receivers on the 53-man roster, so Taylor has a tough path to the roster.

The same is not true for Patrick, as only three running backs made the roster.

The Cincinnati Bengals are waiving running back Jacques Patrick (via Tom Pelissero) and wide receiver Trent Taylor (via Mike Garafolo). The Bengals will reportedly try to get both players on their practice squad.

Despite a solid preseason, Patrick was facing some stiff odds to make the 53-man roster with Joe Mixon, Samaje Perine and Chris Evans locking up the top three spots. Trayveon Williams, a 2019 sixth-round pick, is also fighting Patrick for that fourth running back spot, though there’s no guarantee the Bengals keep four backs.

As for Taylor, this is a bit of a surprise after he had an impressive training camp and preseason. It looked like he had the No. 5 wide receiver spot secured, so this is good news for guys like Mike Thomas and Trenton Irwin fighting for those final spots.

The Bengals have already waived Michael Jordan, so there will be some quality players hitting waivers that the Bengals will likely try to keep on the practice squad.
