There are a couple of running backs you that will be pretty popular on the waiver wire.

Week 1 is always funky in fantasy. There are so many trends that seem like they’d be obvious that get completely flipped on their heads. There are just as many players that have great Week 1’s that we never hear from again.

Which guys should you have at the top of this week’s waiver claim?

Here are the waiver wire pickups for Week 1

Eli Mitchell, RB, San Francisco 49ers: This was a very weird outcome for the 49ers backfield. The talk was all about Raheem Mostert and Trey Sermon, but Sermon was a healthy scratch and Mostert suffered a knee injury (severity still to be determined). Even if Mostert returns soon Mitchell clearly has a favorable view from the coaching staff. He ran 19 times for over 100 yards and a touchdown. The 49ers are such an efficient running team that Mitchell probably keeps value even if Mostert returns or Sermon becomes a bigger part of the backfield.

Kenneth Gainwell, RB, Philadelphia Eagles: Another big running back pickup will likely be Gainwell. He was involved in more of a change-of-pace-back role, but he had 11 touches which accounted for 43 yards and even a touchdown. The Eagles really want to spread teams out, and that could mean big things for the rookie running back moving forward as more of a FLEX option.

Mark Ingram, RB, Houston Texans: It appears that Ingram may be the lead back in Houston with David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay also sharing time. He had 26 carries for 85 yards and a touchdown. This backfield could be a pretty big mess that could be more of a whoever has the hot hand getting the volume that week, but it is hard to ignore this kind of value on the waiver wire.

Nelson Agholor, WR, New England Patriots: The Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones targeted Agholor seven times Sunday which turned into five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. Jones spread around the ball quite a bit, but Agholor is coming off his best season in 2020. This could be the start of something good, and those who need wise receiver help may want to take a chance here.

Christian Kirk, WR, Arizona Cardinals: The Cardinals seem committed to just airing it out as much as possible with Kyler Murray. Kirk has been moved into more if a slot role with DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green set to be the outside guys. That paid dividends in Week 1 with two touchdowns for Kirk and 70 yards on just 5 catches.

These are some of the top guys, but there are obviously plenty of players who scored touchdowns or saw plenty of volume Week 1. Who are some players you are looking to add for Week 2 in hopes that you have struck gold? Who are some players you are looking to unload after troubles to start the season?
