One of the Bengals’ practice squad gems is being signed by another team.
Per NFL insider Tom Pelissero, running back Jacques Patrick is being signed by the San Francisco 49ers.
The #49ers are signing RB Jacques Patrick off the #Bengals practice squad, source said. Big opportunity for the onetime XFL star with injuries depleting the SF backfield.

Patrick, a first-year player out of Florida State, originally made his name known professionally during the XFL’s lone revival season in 2020. The Bengals signed Patrick soon after the league folded last year and kept him on the practice squad throughout the season.
In his second offseason in Cincinnati, Patrick made an admirable push for a roster spot, but ultimately lost due to the club keeping just three running backs. Patrick re-joined the team on the practice squad after he cleared waivers.
The 49ers are desperate for running back talent at the moment. Pretty much all of their players at the position are dealing with injuries right now, which bodes well for Patrick getting opportunities as soon as this week. If any team can maximize talent in the run game, it’s the team that has Kyle Shanahan running the offense.
The Bengals will face the 49ers in Week 14 this year. It’ll be interesting to see if Patrick sticks around for that long.
